“It Takes Each of Us to Make a Difference for All of Us”

John Chisholm on July 21, 2015 in SB Partners News

A great quote by Jackie Mutcheson, a school teacher.

Choosing to give back is the culture that we have fostered at SB Partners – that’s why you’ll see in each partners’ bio, just a bit of text on their personal interests and what is important to them.

Helping organizations in our community is something that I find personally rewarding.  When asked to be Honourary Chair for the Burlington Community Foundation’s (BCF) Masquerade Ball this coming October 24, I felt both humbled and excited at the prospect of providing support.   This year, we will be honouring Gary DeGroote as the well deserving Philanthropist of the Year.

Being involved at this level has been an eye opener to the creativity and effort put forward by BCF to present this year’s gala: the “Mystery of the Night”.  It promises to be a uniquely different and entertaining fundraiser for the attendees, but much more than that this is the main fundraiser for BCF and an opportunity to share what they do and why they do it. The Burlington Community Foundation aims at enhancing the vitality of our community by addressing many pressing needs in areas such as poverty, mental health, environment, youth & education and affordable housing.

I welcome you to take a look at two organizations that have received support through BCF’s grant making program. The link below features Danielle’s Place, a centre for individuals who suffer from eating disorders. Danielle’s Place is just one of BCF’s many grant recipients and demonstrates their commitment to improving services in our community, particularly in the area of Mental Health and Wellness.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un3BBTJGWPY

Food4Kids is another BCF grant recipient.  The program packages healthy food and delivers it to schools providing low-income, at risk children ages 5-14 a nourishing meal to discreetly take home with them for over the weekend. In Halton Region, 500 students benefit from the program and in Hamilton the number climbs to 1200.  See this video to understand how donating to the BCF can directly impact local charities in our community: http://youtu.be/4bL_mvExUig

How can you help? Buy a table or a ticket to the Masquerade Ball or donate an auction item or special experience for the gift auction. We can make a difference. Contact Lizanne Rowe at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or 905 639-0744 x223.
