McMaster University Announces SB Partners’ Scholarship Recipient

“Former National Gymnast Continues his Winning Ways”

As a member of Canada’s National Gymnastics Team, Eric Kafka practiced six days a week for 30 hours to learn intricate routines, master daring tricks and build his strength. Now as an undergraduate student at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University, Kafka applies the same drive, ambition and teamwork to his commerce studies as he did to his gymnastics.

SB Partners LLP, a long-established Burlington accounting firm, recently recognized Kafka’s accomplishments by awarding him the $3,000 SB Partners’ Scholarship. The $3,000 Scholarship was presented to the 27-year-old Burlington resident on Friday, Jan. 29, 2009 at the SB Partners’ offices.

Kafka is currently in his fourth year in the Honours Commerce program at DeGroote. He is specializing in finance and plans to pursue a career in investment banking. His university studies followed his success as a member of the Canadian National Gymnastics Team. “Gymnastics taught me to work hard and deal with adversity. Some days when you’re working at school or at the office, it’s going to be a bad day, and gymnastics teaches you how to push through that.”

“The scholarship is a nice recognition of the hard work that I have done in the past few years and motivates me to continue to set high goals,” said Eric, adding, “I am very grateful to SB Partners for their support.”

The SB Partners Scholarship was established in 2007 through the generosity of SB Partners LLP, a Burlington accounting firm known for its community spirit, support and involvement. Recipients are honoured for their successful studies in the DeGroote School of Business Commerce Program with preference being given to students who have worked, studied or lived in the Halton Region.

McMaster University, one of four Canadian universities listed among the Top 100 universities of the world, is committed to discovery and learning in teaching research and scholarship. It has a student population of 23,000 and more than 140,000 alum in 128 countries.
